Many moons ago, when I used to work at the good old Littleton Red Lobster, I was constantly scheduled to work with my good friend Jill, and we would always crack jokes and generally terrorize the other fellow Lob teammates. A few years ago, I left waitressing entirely and unfortunately lost touch with Jill, up until recently, when I put out a casting call for this film-only shoot. Jill volunteered her daughter, Taylor, to be one of my models for our Denver fashion shoot. I was so happy to not only photograph Taylor but also to see Jill for the first time in years.
For the photo shoot, I advised Taylor to go for urban grunge, as we shot in + around the Santa Fe Art District, where I’ve done a few senior portrait shoots in the past. Taylor styled her outfits herself and she did a pretty badass job, blending glam red lips with grungy ripped tights + my favorite item from her wardrobe, a black beanie with the words “KILLIN’ IT” emblazoned on the front. I mean, really, Taylor did kill it during this shoot.
Alongside me were two of my good photographer friends, Jennie from Green Blossom Photography and Kyla from Kyla Fear Photography, who also shot only film for the shoot. I stuck with three types of 35mm film for the shoot: Kodak Gold 200, Kodak Portra 800 and an expired roll of Fuji Superia 100. I love the rich, moody tones of actual film and wish more photographers would incorporate a roll of film into shoots. It brings such a soft, romantic vibe to whatever it is you’re shooting (especially boudoir photos), and I can’t wait to use it more and more at weddings + portrait sessions this coming season.
Below are some of my favorites from Taylor’s Denver fashion shoot. Check out Janelle’s fashion shoot here as well, who also shot with us. Thank you for stopping by!
