Georgetown Engagement Photos | Jared + Heather

Ahhh, Georgetown engagement photos, we meet again! It’s been awhile since I’ve been up to Georgetown for photos (the last time was for Jessie + Tim’s engagement and wedding photos), so it was lovely to meet Jared + Heather for the engagement session. It was a perfect location for the couple’s engagement photos, as Jared is from a small mountain town, Bailey, and the couple will be getting married in Evergreen, another cute little mountain location.

After we spent some time on the main drag of Georgetown, we attempted to head up to Guanella Pass. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get to the summit of the pass as the road was still closed for “winter weather conditions” — in May! Silly Colorado.

I can’t wait for their wedding this September! It is such an honor to be their photographer, especially as Jared + I went to high school together and it’s just so awesome to spend such an important day with childhood friends. I can’t extend my gratitude enough for Jared + Heather, and I am so happy for them!

Enjoy a few of my faves from their engagement session and check back in the fall for their full wedding gallery! Thank you for stopping by!

About the couple

How they met: Jared had recently been relocated to Missouri for his job and met me through a mutual acquaintance. We went on our first date which was amazing, however, I wasn’t quite sure about him for some reason. It wasn’t until our second date when I knew he might be the one. His fun-loving personality and cooking skills sealed the deal, and the rest is history!

How they got engaged: I’m from Missouri, and growing up in Missouri (with the right parental guidance, of course) you can’t be anything but a St. Louis Cardinals fan. Since moving to Colorado in 2011, I hadn’t been to a Cardinals game and the last game I went to was actually at Coors Field while I was on vacation with my girls. So when I found out that the Birds were coming back to Coors, I just had to go.

However, Jared’s not much of a baseball fan. But, after months of me telling him that I really wanted to go to at least one game while they’re in town, I was surprised with tickets on Sunday, September 15th! Best boyfriend ever. Little did I know that he had a plan up his sleeve!

Fast forward to September 17th! Being that it was the middle of the week, Jared had to work. I had the day off. The time finally came for the game but Jared was running a little bit late getting home. Of course, we hit traffic on our way downtown and drove in circles searching for reasonably-priced parking. We finally parked and made our way into the stadium.

By the time we got there it was already the second inning, so of course I was a little flustered and just wanted to get a few beers and enjoy the game. Jared, however, had other plans. He insisted that we “go around the corner and check out the sunset”. Now, I definitely love a good sunset, but at this point in time, I really didn’t care about it! I didn’t think we’d be able to see it very well from the stadium anyways, but I went along with it. It was the least I could do for him since he bought me tickets. Thus, we walked back into this secluded little area, and, just like I had thought, we could barely see the sunset. Next he took a picture of us on his phone. I knew it was terrible so I wanted to retake it, but when I went to look at it he pulled his phone away, grabbed my hands, got down on one knee and with tears in his eyes, mustered out the most beautiful proposal + pulled out the most gorgeous ring I have ever seen! I couldn’t believe what was happening — I was so naive, but with tears in my eyes and my entire body shaking, I eventually said “YES, WITHOUT A DOUBT!”

It was perfect! Intimate and one of the most sentimental times in my life, a moment I will never forget. He pulled it off as a total surprise, something I will forever cherish. I clearly can’t read him as well as I thought I could!

How they selected their wedding venue: We knew from the get-go that we wanted a mountain wedding, and Evergreen just felt right. Jared grew up in the area and I love everything about the small mountain town. We found the perfect church: Christ the King Catholic Church, as I had a longing for a church wedding. We met with the priest and knew immediately it was the place for us. Our reception will be at Evergreen’s Elk Lodge. It was exactly what we were looking for: affordable and big enough to accommodate our guest list!

What they are looking forward to on their wedding day:

Heather: First looks with both my future husband and my dad; the kiddos in the wedding party (they’re always my favorite part and we have the best crew!); having our families and friends in state and mostly, saying “I do” and beginning my life as Mrs. Dose!

Jared: Getting to marry my best friend and soul mate and having all of our friends and family come together to celebrate our special day.

One piece of advice to all couples planning their nuptials currently: Keep it reasonable and don’t go beyond your limits. The day is all about you and your husband/wife-to-be; don’t lose sight of that in all the details.

What they love about each other:

Heather about Jared: He is the most supportive and loving person that I know. He has been there through my ups and downs and believes in me when I don’t believe in myself. His drive, motivation and desire for adventure. Most importantly though, he can always bring a smile to my face and usually a laugh as well. He’s goofy and sometimes drive me nuts, but no matter what, he’s there and he loves me — how can I go wrong?

Jared about Heather: Her sense of humor, willingness to voice her opinion, her love for and relationships with her friends and family, her willingness to go on new adventures and take risks — like moving to Colorado from Missouri with me!
