Industry Interview | Knotty Tie Co.

Dinosaurs. Sharks. Octopi. Bicycles. Handlebar mustaches.

Contrary to popular belief, I’m not talking about all the weird things you can find in your grandma’s basement. Nope. Actually, I’m talking about necktie designs. Handmade, organic + seriously bitchin’ neckties (and bowties) from some of the coolest guys in Denver.

Meet Knotty Tie Co. Based out of the Santa Fe Art District, they are the newest + hottest makers in the Mile High City. The company is composed of four charming + rather goofy guys: Austin, Jeremy, Mark and Zach. They’re one of the most passionate group of local entrepreneurs that I’ve met thus far, and it’s been a blast connecting with them on a professional level (we have a glam circus-themed styled shoot coming up!) and on a more friendly level (they have a wicked karaoke rendition of the Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way”).

This spring, I stopped by their art district studio where they hand-sew all of their ties from organic cotton. The dinosaurs, sharks, octopi, bicycles and handlebar mustaches? Those are just a few of the myriad options you have when crafting a tie with Knotty Tie Co. Simple stripes, chevron and classic polka dots are always timeless designs. In addition to having a stock of rad ties for the grooms of the world to choose from, Knotty Tie Co. also offers custom wedding designs. I don’t know about you, but I’m tempted to create a custom burrito tie. Just a tie full of burritos. Yes. I love burritos.

If you’re in the market for a show-stopping accessory for your wedding or if you simply appreciate the unique fashion of a custom made tie on Casual Fridays at your office job, definitely get in touch with Knotty Tie Co. Feel free to stop by their shop for First Fridays in the Santa Fe Art District (they’re at 9th-ish and Santa Fe) or send them an email: [email protected]. For now, get a feel for these badass designers here on the fourth installation of Urban Safari Photography’s Industry Interview series.

Urban Safari: Who is Knotty Tie Co.?

Knotty Tie Co.: Knotty Tie Co. is a community of makers and designers that wanted to bring meaning to something that was otherwise meaningless. We wanted to create a work environment where we could work equally with our hands and our minds. The necktie is an understated but powerful canvas and a perfect place to show off a splash of personality.

Urban Safari: What has been your favorite event that you’ve taken part in since installing your business in Denver?

Knotty Tie Co.: First Friday Art Walk is by far our favorite. We love the high volume of visitors that we get to connect with. It is an opportunity to share the story about what we do and why we do it. Some are new to the concept while others are familiar with our brand and tickled to meet us in person. The energy carried forward from each art walk is an energy boost that lasts all month for us.

Urban Safari: How do you cater to grooms + groomsmen in Denver?

Knotty Tie Co.: We offer fully customizable neckties, bow ties, and pocket squares. Colors, patterns, stitches, and cuts are all made to order and just for you. The Knotty Tie Co. team is dedicated to making sure that every detail is carefully curated to ensure that your wedding party looks sharp.

Urban Safari: What is your favorite tie that you’ve created thus far?

Knotty Tie Co.: We simply can’t get enough of the dinosaur tie. It is fun to wear and always a great conversation piece. It is as seriously goofy as we are.

Urban Safari: What one piece of advice would you give to all the grooms out there on their wedding day?

Knotty Tie Co.: Defy traditional wisdom. Be weird. Be good. Be Knotty.
