Immediately following Jen and Neil’s beautiful ceremony, we whisked away to the Rodrigues residence, where a two-piece string ensemble awaited the arrival of the bride. This is a deeply-rooted Goan tradition, where the bride is more or less officially welcomed into the groom’s family. Prayers are sung to the melody of the violinists, and afterwards, the groom’s parents present the bride with a gold necklace and a red dress that is typically worn the following day when the bride invites the groom’s family to her home for a meal. Jen and Neil stuck pretty dang close to this tradition, but instead of having a meal together, we all had a ginormous New Year’s party.
