Being a Rocky Mountain wedding photographer surely has its perks, like being able to spend a day with these two genuinely kind + fun people. Ashley + Brett were married at the Beaver Creek Lodge this past September and I am so excited to share these photos with you! There’s a ton, because I simply could not pick just a few to showcase in this post.
Ashley + Brett started their day getting ready in two spacious suites at the Beaver Creek Lodge. Ashley + her girls sipped on champagne while the Oklahoma football game played on in the background (Ashley is a huge Sooners fan). Brett, meanwhile, spent the day with his groomsmen playing golf and gifted them classy watches as their groomsmen gifts. Once everyone was ready to roll, we headed up the ski lift to do the first look at the top of a mountain amidst a sparkling grove of aspen trees.
The ceremony, officiated by Big Ed Culver, a very close + dear family friend, took place at a bridge (which doubles as a ski bridge in the winter, which Ashley + Brett thought was a neat tie-in to their personalities as they are both big skiers) at the base of the mountain on the Beaver Creek Lodge property. Hanging lanterns dazzled overhead the guests (who were also greeted with champagne and wine) and baby’s breath lined the monogrammed burlap aisle. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect; just a touch of clouds that provided for soft, diffused light.
Guests then headed to the cocktail reception, which was followed by a smores bar near the open fire pit on the patio of the Beaver Creek Lodge. Ashley + Brett went for a soft pink theme for their table décor, accented by hydrangeas, Kiera blush garden roses and more baby’s breath. Small tea light candles lined the tables.
The Beaver Creek Lodge, famous for its modern art gallery in its building, was transformed with silver drapery. For their reception entertainment, the bride + groom chose a favorite local band, the Foxfield Four (who I’m currently jammin out to on iTunes) to rock out for the guests. At one point, Ashley even took over for their drummer for a portion of a song.
Overall, this was an endearing + touching wedding day to be a part of. Ashley + Brett are so incredibly hospitable, and their families are no different. Thank you so much to the Sunderlands + Foys for having me along to document this sweet wedding. I am so happy for Ashley + Brett and wish them all the best in their first year as newlyweds.
Enjoy some (more like a lot) of my favorite images from their day. Thank you for stopping by!

Mini-interview with the bride
What was your favorite part of the day? “My favorite part of the day was seeing Brett for our first look and then spending 15 minutes together riding the lift down to start the ceremony. It was so special to take in all of the beauty of the mountains and see my handsome groom. We are avid skiers so it is always so wonderful to take in the majestic mountains in the summer time. I had a little bit of nerves but being with Brett helped calm these and then I was ready to say our vows and celebrate. We also ate dinner together at the bridal table while our guests were at cocktail hour. It was so nice to be able to eat the wonderful food and enjoy those moments alone! I highly recommend this to other brides because the night flies by and you can easily forget to eat!”
What was your favorite thing to design or plan? “Lori Harding at Beaver Creek Lodge is fantastic! She encouraged us to design our own menu for the evening. This was so much fun to sit with Brett and brainstorm about our favorite things. Once we went up for a quick getaway weekend and had the tasting I couldn’t have been more excited for our big day. We incorporated all of our favorite things and of course a beef tenderloin for my dad! The second thing would be picking out or flowers and designing the centerpieces with Loretta. If you know me well, you know I always have fresh flowers in my house so I wanted this to be something special! They all turned out spectacular!”
If you could give one piece of advice to other brides + grooms planning their wedding, what would it be? “First determine the things that are important to you and your fiancé. Focus on those things throughout the wedding process and try not get wrapped up in other people’s opinions. Always remember this is a special time and you’re only engaged once, so try not to get bogged down with the chaos of the planning. Focus on the fun things! Lean on your friends who have recently gone through the process of planning a wedding. This will save a tremendous amount of time in terms of hiring vendors. Most importantly be patient and have fun!”
Where did you go for your honeymoon? What were your favorite parts? “We went to Istanbul, Turkey, Mykonos, Greece and Santorini, Greece.
All of the places we visited were aboslutely wonderful! In my opinion everyone should try to take a least one international trip a year. The world is a wonderful place and there is so much to learn and see! On our second to last day of our honeymoon we hopped on a catamarn sailboat with about 20 other people. We sailed along the coast of Santorini, stopping to see the White, Black and Red Beaches. It was one of the best experiences we have ever had. We stopped several times to go swimming. Brett LOVED doing back flips off of the boat with the GoPro! Then we had lunch on the boat from this tiny kitchen, and it was probably one of our favorite meals of our trip. The food in Greece was spectacular. My mouth waters thinking about the feta cheese and ripe tomatoes in the Greek salads. Our crew was so much fun and they had a bunch of fun stories from their time out there, even one about when the Kardashians took the same sail we did! We met some very nice people on the boat and it was literally the icing on the cake to our trip. I can’t wait to visit again one day!”
Anything else you’d like to mention to Urban Safari readers? “Ashley is so talented and such a peach. She is so responsive when you have questions or need things. I never thought twice about hiring her and her photos throughout our engagement and wedding are something I will cherish forever. She is so sweet and kind, I couldn’t imagine anyone else being a part of our journey! Down the road when we have kiddos I know she’ll be a part of the next chapter of our life! Love you Ash!”
